Is there a JavaScript out there that can be used to access the REST based Astoria data services. In other words, How can i download the data in JSON format from a Astoria REST data service from javascript?

There are a couple of examples in the CTP (they are installed when you install the CTP) that show how to use an Astoria service from Javascript. Some samples just access the service using plain Javascript plus the Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX library, and others use a small sample framework that's also included.
Check out the samples in the Program Files\Microsoft Codename Astoria\Samples directory in your install.
