Merge ASP.NET forums to regulary formus

Why do you have different forums for ASP.NET? Use the same as for every other issues.

Hi,

I definitely agree with that. Though its hard to import all of the existing users in forms.asp.net to this forum, plus the number of posts to be merged is just too many. What I suggest is to carry over the users here to asp.net. Where a user here is automatically registered to asp.net forums. SO that it would not seem that we are having two different forums...

I agree that the ASP.NET forums should be merged, for several reasons:

  • ability to search for issues on just one site (eg. .NET Development, C# development and ASP.NET issues are tightly related)
  • the ASP.NET logon process requires a new logon and password, whereas the forums.microsoft.com allow use of a passport account
  • some ASP.NET forums require moderator approval --> the point of a forum is to discuss, and get a timely response. If it is necessary to wait for a moderator to approve a post, then lots of time can be wasted. (The .NET passport sign-up process makes it a bit harder to just sign up and create rubbish posts, such as slanderous, stupid, or advertisement posts)
  • The forums.microsoft.com rich textbox is better, and allows pasting in rich text (good for coloured/stylised code samples).
  • The concept of 'answered' questions, rather than just endless threads is a good one
  • and many more...

Perhaps there could be a transitional merge process? I'm sure you guys at Microsoft have managed enough software transitions to be able to work it out!
