Sudden system truncation?

I purchased a webcam today (MI Zoom 2.0 cam for notebooks) and when i installed it, as soon as the installation was done my computer went to blue screen and rebooted. As it was rebooting it did the diskcheck, and during the diskcheck it started deleating a bunch of .dll files, system files, everything. This is all i could write down it was deleating so fast:
owner/ntuser.dat.log
temp/ispA.tmp
temp/ispI.tmp
prefetch/setup.exe
dllcatch/ks.sys
set30.tmp
software.log

Many many more were deleated, but i didnt have time to write them down. After it deleated all of them it said something about turning lost chain into files? Then when the computer rebooted it was in windows classic mode, and my ethernet didnt work, most of my devices werent recognized, all kinds of stuff. I have almost everything working now except for when i try to play music it tells me my sound device doesnt work. Iv tried for nearly 8 hours straight to fix that one problem, i had a more experienced person helping also. We reinstalled drivers, and played in the system services dialog box, everything we could think of. But i still do not have sound. The device manager says its working properly, but the volume dialog box has all the areas where i choose my device greyed out as if i dont have one. This is a Acer travelmate 2480 with Windows XP Home installed. Can anyone help me?

thanks
Chiko
