The new stars are quite... ugly

Hello,

is there any reason, why these stars left are so huge and two-colored? It would look soo cooler if you could get the stars from the Connect website, for example.

(Yep and it would be somewhat helpful if there were the number of points in the stars tooltip.)

This one is quite nice

(Need to reduce size only)

And no need to have black stars (we know that complete is 5 )

I mean that is good to put only the yellow stars.. If you want to put 5 no problem but the stars you are putting now are quite bad and ugly so change them

Big Smile

Omar, yes, but it's not much a Microsoft-style like. The MSN's emoticon () would do, but still I think that stars from Connect are the best pick. Aren't they cute?

Yes Quite Nice, you see I have 5 stars now (just 4 laugh)

The decision are on Moderator and Forum developer, hope they change it

Hope too.

The MSN one would match the style of forums and emoticons used in posts.

The Connect one is really decent, no drop shadows and can take much less space if placed next to each other as the are on the Connect site...

Who knows, maybe they will invent absolutely cool, breath-taking, new starkind! Big Smile

Can you add a tooltip to explain what it is? What's the stars for?

Edit: haha, nvm. I just read the announcement. This is first time I ever go there.

Stars for rating sure

Uh, I definitely don't see anything better about the stars you posted. The MSN stars looked flawed (the left "leg" looks blurry and thicker than the right), and the "empty" Connect star looks very aliased and it's pretty awful.

The current stars look very symmetrical, like how a star would look if it were drawn in VML. The glow gives a nice added effect. While they're nothing spectacular, I certainly prefer them over the other suggestions in this thread.

Hi All,

My two cents :

1. Reduce the size of the stars.

2. Specify what does each star mean? - I guess its already there in the FAQ!

3. Have the provision of considering half's. For eg: 2 and half star, 3 and a half star and so on.

4. Change the color from yellow (or whatever the current color is ) to light orange or a similar color. Yellow just doesnt look good.

Suprotim, yes I definitely think they need to get much smaller.

Andy, well, I agree the empty one is quite aliased (although you don't seem to have anything against the full one), however, if the style of stars should remain, I really don't like the outer glow. Without it, they will maybe distract less.

Don't you think that the way how they now look makes them very significant and visible part of the threads? I think they distract quite a lot.

I agree with all your suggestions. I do think they are a bit ugly. The Connect ones are my favorites personally, but I can make do with smaller versions of this one.

Someone reported a bug in the bugs forum saying that the stars look bad for IE 6. The problem was fixed sometime around the 17th (9/17). So if this is still a problem then it is probably useful to

be specific about what browser and what version is used.
