What other products are considering using Astoria?
Hi,
I'm interested to know whether there has been any interest from other product groups in leveraging Astoria for their own needs. There must be a multitude of products within Microsoft that have an interest in making data available as a data service. A quick brainstorm:
The Office Business Applications team (that have just purchased Stratature) are currently building an MDM product. MDM's raison d'etre is making data available to consumers so I would have thought Astoria was a good fit here.
Microsoft Dynamics. All that family of products would, I assume, have to make data available over http. Particularly Titan (Microsoft's answer to Salesforce.com).
Sharepoint.
Has there been any interest from these or any other groups?

Good question. It is a bit early to talk about any specifics, but we are exploring through prototypes, lengthy whiteboard sessions, etc a number of integration scenarios both with internal partner teams at Microsoft (from office through live services) and people external to Microsoft who have approached us after trying out the prototype bits. I know this response was vague, but as we progress from exploration we will post our progress to our blog, etc
That said, we have a number of channels to provide feedback and requirements to the Astoria project. If the project is something that interests anyone and you want to provide feedback/comments or be more deeply involved through our early adopter initiatives, please do send us email: astoriaf at microsoft.com
Thanks for the reply Mike. I know some folks from the MDM team have taken more than a passing glance. Hopefully others are too.
Hopefully the benefits of a platform company reusing platforms when building its platforms should be obvious
