Error publishing to FTP in VB 2008 Express beta 2
I have a ClickOnce project that publishes to FTP fine in VB 2005 Express. I installed VB 2008 Express beta 2 and upgraded the project. When I try to publish it I get the following error:
Failed to connect to 'ftp://server/folder/' with the following error: Unable to create the Web 'ftp://server/folder/'. The components for communicating with the FrontPage server extensions are not installed.
I don't know why it's referring to FrontPage - I'm not using that all, I just want it to publish to an FTP server.
I can't find any references to this error or possible solutions anywhere on the internet or in the help files. The computer is running Vista.
If nobody on the forum can help me, is there a way to contact Microsoft directly for support? Is the Express edition eligable for support?

Could you give some specifics so that we can look at this at our end? From what I understand the only change you have made is that you have used the upgrade wizard to upgrade the project.
Are there any other changes you made? (Ftp server/code/permissions).
You also might try running Express in administrator mode on Vista.

Any luck? I'm running into similar issues. The remote server is most likely a UNIX box with Front Page Extension. I just struck this one too (except in C# Express). I had to open my project in 2005 to publish (after restoring the pre-upgrade version of my .sln and .csproj files).
This is a straight-forward ftp publish destination - nothing to do with Frontpage.
Is there a solution to this problem ?

A couple of quick questions.
We see this error message a lot when you try to public to IIS7 (on Vista) and usually:
-
VS is not run under Administrator mode or
-
Dont have the optional (non-default) IIS6 metabase feature enabled in IIS7

Mine is a remote ftp server (hosted at studiocoast.com.au), so I'm not sure which OS they're running (I think it's server 2003).
I run Visual C# Express on XP, so no administrator mode or anything (although I am an admin on the PC).
The computer running VS is Vista, but I'm publishing it to a remote FTP site that is running Linux with some FrontPage extensions.
I've tried running VS elevated and not elevated and it seemed to make no difference.

This is an issue that we are currently investigating. I will keep you posted as to the outcome of this problem.
In the meantime you guys could try using the Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition for publishing to FTP.

I can also give more information if needed. I have similar issue, but not exactly the same errors messages. I've tried many different configurations.
IIS7 (with all the iis6 backward compatiblity features installed), Server 2008 RC0, VS 2008 Team Edition beta 2 (without team components installed), all of these were done using lthe builtin local Administrator acocunt
1.) I've tried with Sharepoint ... got an expected Error of "This version of Web Developer does not support Publishing to Sharepoint sites"
2.) I've tried with the new beta1 of Frontpage 2002, is a complete no-go. even with all the authentications installed and enabled, it kept reprompting me for password untill i gave up. (used local administrator account for login).
3.) I've tried with neither of them installed, and i got the "Website does not have frontpage extensions installed".
one interesting note: With beta1 of Frontpage installed... If i used the browse to choose the publish destination, choose internet, type the new URL myself, and click "OK" (after, of course, removing any traces of the site from IIS), then it does create the site ..and starts publishing. but some files can't be sent. if gives an error saying "Administrator has blocked uploading of the following files: Web.config" .. as well as all dll's.
I'm a Dev with one of your Gold Cert partners (also the Prefered ISV for southcentral ), so i've been working heavily with office, sharepoint, .net 3.5, etc.. if i can be of any other help, please let me know. i've got a VPC bright and clean, undo-disks ready, lol.
