How to search old versions of the document?

Scenario:

We have enabled versioning for document library. Lets say a document A has 4 versions in version history (v 1.0,1.1,2.0,3.0 etc). The latest version is 3.0

Ver 1.1 contains text "legal"

Ver 2.0 also containts text "legal"

Problem:

User wants to search "legal" and wants to retrieve v1.1 and v2.0 of the document.

How can we do this?

Generally the 1.1 version will only be available if the user has rights to it.

Search will return the "tip" version in search results. The user could then choose Show Versions.

What if we have unique text in the older version of the item or document, that is not present in the newest version of the item or document. Is it possible to do a search for the unique text ?

I don't think previous versions are returned, though there may be a setting for this.
