I'm having similar problems on a 2 year old 1.86 GHz laptop with 1 GB of ram (in other words, well within specs). The progress bar reading:

Setup is loading installation components.
This may take a minute or two.

has been hung up on 19 bars for the last hour. I'll let it go for another hour, but if anyone can figure out why it's hanging I'd really appreciate it.

Update: I left it to install overnight and it has been stuck at the same place for 6 hours.

Hey,

I had the exact same problem, just after I reformated to XP..

I installed .NET 3 SDK and .NET 2 Framework and it worked... Hmm.. Might have had Java and Flash as well, though I doubt they would do anything..

Otherwise, I have no idea.

Reformat. That solves anything. Lol.

Or go Linux..?! Lol.

.NET 2 installed successfully. .NET 3 SDK is hanging at the exact same place. I'll leave it for a couple of hours just in case, but this is supremely frustrating.
