Connect error dialog and TDS App Event Log error when trying to connect using local Management S
I have successfully installed the July CTP SQL Server 2008 x86 dev image, but I cannot use it. I am installing this on the recently released Server 2008 RC0 and it went fine - everything succeeded. I only installed the Database Engine, all Client components, and all Documentation, Books, and sample DBs.
The problem occurs when I attempt to connect using the Mgt Studio. I have seen some other posts about the TDS (Tabular Data Stream) error and they said there must be a mismatch between the client and server libraries. I'm not sure how this is possible since I installed everything from a single installation image AND there was nothing on the machine prior to installing - unless Server 2008 RC0 ships with some DB functionality that may have caused a problem.
My main goal is configuring Server 2008 RC0, but I want to install a database for other server features. I tried to initially install SQL 2005, but the pre-requisite install fails immediately with error [87] when trying to install the .NET 2.0 Framework. Says something about "invalid parameter". So, I tried to install Katmai - and it worked. Or, I thought it worked, until I tried to connect.
Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ideally, I'd like to play with both Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008, but if that is not possible, I still need to get SQL Server 2005 installed on Server 2008 RC0.
