VSTS 2005 Load Testing Limitations

Hi,

We are trying to evaluate VSTS and we would like to get an unbiased view on the limitations of VSTS 2005 from load testing point of view; highligting the pros and cons of the tool. I know any tool will have some limitations that a end user should be aware of to be prepared to handle any drawbacks with the tool. Can anyone please provide some info on this?

Best regards,

Ragini, as one of the developers of the VSTS load testing tool, I'm certainly not unbiased, so I won't comment on the pros and cons, but I will suggest that if you are evaluating VSTS load testing for use in upcoming projects, you should evaluate the VS 2008 (code named Orcas) release. The VS2008 Beta 2 is available for download now and is very stable (see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/default.aspx for download).

For a list of the load testing, web testing, and unit testing enhancements in VS2008, see http://blogs.msdn.com/edglas/archive/2007/03/28/what-s-new-in-orcas.aspx and the links from there. As I hope you will see, we have tried hard to address limitations in VS2005 load testing, and my admittedly biased opinion is that we have succeeded.

Bill,

Thanks for being very frank with your views

Here are my concerns.

We are almost certain to invest on VSTS, but unfortunaly cannot wait too long until we get a released version of VSTS 2008 (plus we have to spend time to evaluate it). So, if we buy VSTS 2005 now (i mean few weeks from now) and later decide to uprade to Orcas what will be the upgrade fees? How costly will it be me to upgrade to Orcas.

If you purchase VSTS 2005 with software assurance (and I think that is the only way) you will get the upgrade to Orcas for free.

Thanks again for the prompt reply

I'm trying to download Orcas Beta 2 using the link http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/default.aspx

I filled up the sign-up form, but i never got an email that is part of a verification process before downloading the setup. I tried many times, rom different systems, using different Ids (ragini@excelindia.com, raginibabita@gmail.com), but it didn't work; i mean, i never received the mail. I tried to reach the support link, but i was not able to find the proper contact details. Can anyone help me in getting the Orcas Beta 2. Kindy do the needful

Best regards,
