Area path Reporting hierarchy

I am trying to create this report for a high level hierarchy area path. But when i choose the high level one, all the lower level hierarchy areas follow and provide way more information in the report than i need.

Area1

|--Area2

| |Area3

| | |Area4

so what i am trying to say is that i dont want Area3 or Area4 when i want to report on Area2. and this is how my area path looks like and can not be changed. so is there hope. can i modify the query so as to exclue Area3 and Area4. Any help would be appreciated. thanks,
