Since the original post I have managed to connect a couple of times, but not reliably. I have no idea why I connected the times I did either. After the post I found an article about opening port 8081 on the client, did that, and now the task pane functionality works correctly, but my primary issue of Project not connecting to the work items, and now in fact typically saying that it can't connect to the server period, continues.
I have tried creating a brand new B3refresh team project to verify that my issue is not with the original B3 team project. I have tried immediately after a reboot with nothing else running. I also did a few packet sniffs and found that all Project is doing is running the 'CheckAuthentication' web service method on the TFS server, which is returning a 200 and some gobbledygook that i'm sure Project understands. It seems that either Project is being told it's not authorized or it's crapping out at this point. If it were being told that it is authorized to continue, it would seem that another web service call would be made to ask for the work items, which is not happening.
Additionally, Project does not update the Project file (save it) to the TFS server or check it back in as it is supposed to and most of the times that I open the Project file it tells me that the file is locked for editing when it should not be. I have not found a reliable way (aside from rebooting the server) to correct this particular issue.
Anyone's suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Additionally, if anyone else is experiencing this issue I would like to know. Also, if I need a smack in the head with a 2x4 because I am totally missing something, please let me know.

Is the Excel integration busted as well, or is this just for MS Project?
Thanks,
Thanks for your reply Dan. Team Explorer is woring fine, and I tested Excel to see if it worked well and it both read the database and then updated it after I changed one of the tasks. The issue appears to be only in Project.

Ingram/Dan--
I am having the same issue. Connecting to Team Foundation works fine from:
- IDE
- Excel
- Internet Explorer (WSS)
If I try to use Project 2003, it fails with error TF80071. ![]()
Have you figured anything out?
Thanks,
Nathan
Nathan,
I have not found any solutions or workarounds. I was hoping Dan would reply again after my last message, but I guess this thread has gotten too far down the list and just isn't being noticed anymore. I was thinking about reinstalling to see if I have the same problem.

I see the same behavior.
TFS beta 3 refresh, dual server install on Server 2K3 SP1.
Project 2003 Standard Edition SP2 running on XP Pro SP2.

I'm working through the old unanswered questions. Did you ever resolve the issue? Have you tried with later releases of Team Foundation Server?
