The IASA Foundation Reference Model

Hi all,

Just wanted to give a preview of the IASA talks at the Insight conference. For those of you unfamiliar with the IASA, check out the websitewww.iasahome.org. We are simply a bunch of architects from around the world, getting together to make our jobs more professional, educable, sustainable and useful. The IASA already represents and is made up of thousands of architects.

We are doing three discussions at the conference:

  1. Keynote with Ivar Jacobson: I will be giving an opening keynote on the first day of the conference with both Ivar Jacobson and Richard Hubert. We will cover the basics of the IASA model and how we represent architects interests globally.
  2. Introduction to the FRM: The first session will introduce the FRM and how it impacts the practicing architects role. This is a very exciting session covering the two primary deliverables of the FRM (the glossary and architecture styles). We will cover the following points in detail:
    1. Rationale for the Reference Model
    2. The Architects Glossary and Ontology
    3. Common Architecture Use Cases, Personas and Scenarios
    4. The FRM Meta-Model - Adopting a Context for Architecture
    5. The FRM Style Guide and Examples
    6. Practical Realities for the Architect
  3. The FRM and Your Job: This session focuses on advanced topics in the FRM and how it works inside Corporate IT, Product Companies and Consultancies. We will delve into the perspecitives that make up the architecture profession and show how the FRM simplifies and unifies our underlying profession. We will also discuss how you can be involved with the process to best match the FRM with your needs, and how it may be adapted according to business speciality (Financial Services, Healthcare, etc).

Of course the speakers and

I'm really excited about this as I've had a sneak preview of what the FRM includes:)! - It's a truly fantastic effort and just for the record whose on the Working Group team again?

Also for those of you that don't already know - the event you're keynoting at is the Microsoft Architect Insight event in the UK in March. Too Cool!

Dear Paul,

The FRM is a great initiative!

hope to meet you soon in April at Sogeti Netherlands.

Where can we find more details online about the current Foundation Reference Model? I assume others are very interested too.

Regard, Paul Settels

Hello, Seems to be a commendable effort at improving the general standard of software development and further institutionalizing the practice of software development.
Is there are any material anywhere apart from the website that you recommend that gives a clearer picture of what you're trying to achieve?

Thanks.

Bisi Akintunde.
