Commas in resource names

I have encountered a problem when importing TFS work items into MS Project. On my domain, all users' names in Active Directory are in the format, "Last, First M." When this name gets imported into MS Project from TFS, it imports it as 2 separate resources, "Last" and "First M." When I try to publish back to TFS, I get an error (for each item), "This work item cannot be published because it is assigned to more than one resource." Is there any way to change this behaviour or at least work around it?
