Disconnected modified files

The biggest reasons we are not switching over from VSS to VSTFD have to do with working on files is disconnected mode, sluggish performance and multiple file comparisions. Perhaps you can address some of our issuesBig Smile

1. If I am disconnected from the source control and I have modified project files or deleted project files (and probably added files) team foundation does not find these file changes. Moveover, a "get latest version" believes that the deleted files still exist in the file system (it appears to be comparing against metadata instead of the actual file system). I understand that there are some team foundation power tools to be released that help rectify this situation. Where and when will I am be able to find them?

2. For the most part response is quite good, the only real trouble spot is the context menus that get displayed when right-clicking in the solution explorer. Not sure what it is doing to make it so slow -- and if there is anything we can do to speed it up.

3. Since we have problems with #1 a nice feature would be able to do a file system vs. latest source code version for a folder or multiple files. I suspect if #1 was more seamless there would be less of a need for this, but someone in our office mentioned it as a pet peeve.

Unless we can come up with reasonable solutions to these problems it appears we are going to have to uninstall and go back to our VSS solution. That would be extremely disappointing because the integrated build, bugs, code coverage, etc make this product expremely attractive.

I look forward to any work-arounds you may have.Smile

1) Unfortunately we don't have any offline/online support built into the product for V1. The powertoy has been working pretty good - I've not heard a release date yet.

2) can you elaborate on the performance issues you are seeing? are there any particular project or file types that seem better/worse? how big are your solutions/projects?

You can find out more about the power toys Tim mentioned at http://blogs.msdn.com/buckh/archive/2005/10/01/476035.aspx.

For v1, we had to cut a planned "offline" mode. It's certainly something we'll be looking at for the next version.

Are you using beta 3 or beta 2? Single or dual server? How much RAM for the data and application tiers?

The powertoy will be available as part of the upcoming mid-October RC of the Visual Studio SDK.

I am having the damnedest time trying to find a link to this tfpt power toy. I'm assuming that even with the RTM version of TFS I still need this for disconnected work, correct?

Can anyone provide me with a link where I can download it?

Yes tfpt is required even with RTM version

You can find the latest version of this tool @ Visual Studio 2005 SDK – March 2006 CTP for v2.

Thanks ... however, I'm going to have to find someone else in our company who has the login credentials for Industry Partners, since I don't know what the id/password is for our company. This is the only place I can download this?
