MSN Messenger Plugin

Hey everyone,

As most of you, I am a regular msn messenger user as well as a developer. Recently I was told by one of my friends about MSN Messenger PLUS (plugin) created by Patchou and I was REALLY impressed. I also downloaded other plugins (stuffplug, anonymail etc...) and I found all of them extremely useful.

I was wondering how I can write my own plugins for msn messenger. I have searched and found some information but nothing that would satisfy me completely. I have used the MsnMessengerAPI class in VB6 but found it to be very limited. I need to have access to events such as "a user opening a conversation window" (like the one in stuffplug) and others.

Can someone PLEASE show me where I can find a good tutorial or a reference to write my own msn plugins... Im tired of surfing around...

Hi Amir,
MSN Messenger currently doesn't expose any API you can use to build addons/plugins. The only API officially supported by Microsoft is the Activity API (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/messengerp2p/introduction.asp) Windows Live Messenger (the next version of MSN Messenger), might be exposing an API to build addons/plugins in a feature build.
Messenger Plus! is built without making use of any Messenger API's. It uses pure windows hooks to "hook into" MSN Messenger. It will not be easy to create anything like this. However, Messenger Plus does allow you to easily build plugins for it (http://www.msgplus.net/help_plugins.php). Stuffplug, anonymail, and lots of other plugins are built with this kit.
Before you're going to write plugins for Messenger Plus using the link above, I'd like to inform you that these plugins for Plus won't be supported anymore in the next version of msgplus: Messenger Plus Live (www.msgpluslive.net). Messenger Plus Live will expose a scripting interface which is completely different than the old API.
