Cannot add new project to source control ?

I created a new project, including specifying the source control name. I got an error:

TF30170 : The plugin Microsoft.ProjectCreationWizard.Portal failed during task SharePointPortal from group Portal.

Explanation:

Plugin error text: "The server commited a protocol violation"

So, I tried again. This time, I typed in a portal description, and hit enter to go to new line. Instead it hit the default button, and my project was successfully created, without source control.

Now as I have already started the actual project, I selected it and chose 'Add project to source control' I get a dialog box with a large text box I cannot type into, a Make New Folder button (give a null reference exception, VERY professional ), a place to type in a name for the solution folder ( has my project name there, changing it does not help ), an Advanced... button ( give a TF10127 error, path does not include a source control item ) and an OK button ( same error ) or Cancel, which does not give me what I want. I find I can actually remove the project from my IDE, but I can't see how to delete it, to try and create another one. Overall, I'd rate this UI as a disaster, not least for the lack of help it's giving me.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks for the feedback.

To delete the existing project, you can use the utility TFSDeleteProject.exe which can be found in %systemdrive%\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\

Thanks. So, once I create a project in this manner, I can't add source control later, and I have to delete the project ? That kind of sucks, don't you think ?

I responded to your question on how to delete existing projects from TFS. I'm not an expert in Source control, but found this thread which might be useful for you. If this doesn't help, do let me know and I'll get an expert in the area to work with you.

OK, fair enough. Deleting the project would be the last resort. I'd prefer to know how to add the code I've built to source control on the project I've created. I was just surprised ( and am still ) that there's no UI option for deleting a project. The whole thing feels a little half baked to me. The fact that I get a null reference exception smells to me of poor code, any potential null reference should be checked for and a more meaningful error shown, if no other option exists. Certainly there's no way I can see in the 'add project to source control' dialog to do anything apart show error messages.
