Project Creation Problem: Unable to connect to the Windows SharePoint Services
After installing TFS Beta 3, everything seems ok. Can connect to it, manage it, etc.
However I cannot create projects sucessfully. When I try to I get this (excerpt from log):
Event Description: TF30162: Task "SharePointPortal" from Group "Portal" failed Exception Type: Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client.PcwException Exception Message: Unable to connect to the Windows SharePoint Services at TEAMSYS1 Exception Details: The Project Creation Wizard was not able to connect to the Windows SharePoint Services at TEAMSYS1. The reason for the failed connection cannot be determined at this time. Because the connection failed, the wizard was not able to complete creating the Windows SharePoint Services site.
and later in the log:

The default web site should have been assigned to the app pool created by wss on install (TFWSS58cb). Team Foundation Server web site has it's own app pool it's part of. Are there any errors in the event log? Do an iisreset and check in the event log to see if IIS has actually failed.
IIS Reset normally. No errors in log. Neither web was extended with sharepoint services. Browsing to the default web gives me the normal "Site under construction" page. Browsing to the TFS site gives me Error 403.
Seems the TFS install missed the step of extending sharepoint to these sites?
I have the same problem (The Project Creation Wizard was not able to connect to the Windows SharePoint Services). In addition TFS can not rollback project creation after error. I don't see this project but when I try to create next project with same name I get message:
TF30321:The name you typed is already used for another team project on the Team Foundation Server. Type a unique name for the new team project.
But on page "Specify Source Control Settings" I see all projects I try to create before in combo "Branch from". When I try delete project with tfsdeleteproject.exe I get message "The item /<PROJECTNAME> cannot be found".

Exactly what mine looks like. I also have the same problem deleting the project. Using command line project deletion tool (forget what it's called now) results in a 404 error.
Can't be it. BUILTIN\Administrators on the teamsys server has system wide rights to the sharepoint sites and the account being used to create Team Projects is a member of that group.
Are there any resources on how TFS is meant to relate to SharePoint? For example (as noted above) should the default web or the TFS have been extended with SharePoint Services?
Enj. I create team project at the end. This is my way.
1. I uninstall TF Server (don't unistall TF explorer). 2. Uninstall default instance of SQL2K5. 3. Remove all databases. 4. Uninstall WSS with SP1. 5. Uninstall IIS. 6. Reboot. 7. Install IIS. 8. Reboot. 9. Install SQL2K5. 10. Enable TCP/IP for SQL2K5. 11. Reboot. 12. Install WSS with SP1 in silent mode. 13. Reboot. 14. Install just released WSS SP2. 15. Reboot. 16. Install TFS. 17. Reboot.

I don't think that I have success because WSS SP2. Because before this successfull attempt I get first successfull result (that time I dancing with tambourine around IIS configuration and don't clear understand what I've done). Now I think that previous unsuccessfule project creation caused previous unsuccessful installation (I had non English (US) settings and locale) of TFS which broke IIS configuration.
I am getting the same problem. Because of Ghost images I have been reinstalling it, starting with a clean machine, several times now.
I noticed that before you install Foundation Server, the SharePoint Central Administration page (shortcut in Administrative Tools) works. After the installation of Foundation Server it doesn't.
Something is going wrong with rights but I haven't found the cause yet. Rights as seen in IIS manager and the NTFS rights look ok. I'm logged on as an administrator (TFSSETUP), IIS shows no allowance for anonymous and uses Windows Authentication, and the built-in Administrators group has NTFS rights to the directory and file.
But wait a second, I just added the service account to the local Administrators group and restarted IIS and now the SharePoint Central Administration works again.
Next I'm going to setup the client. I'll let you all know how it goes.
Thanks! This actually worked. Not sure what did it but the major thing I noticed was that the default web was extended properly this time.
The only minor issue I have now is that while I am able to create team projects with no problem, I get this when trying to access the projects portal site even though my account is a local admin on the server and in all the project roles.
HTTP Error 401.2 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to server configuration. Internet Information Services (IIS)
Ok here's the deal. The steps indicated above work. However, I found that the problem is Sharepoint (the default web site) is not extended to authenticate via NTLM. The best thing to do is right after you install WSS, perform the following. Note: I only had to do this on the default web (W3SVC1). When I did that and finished the TFS install as described, everything worked.
To configure Windows SharePoint Services to use NTLM authentication
Determine the virtual server ID for the SharePoint Central Administration and SharePoint content virtual servers.
On the IIS server, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
Locate the virtual server you need to find the ID for, right-click it, and then click Properties.
On the Web Site tab, , next to the Active Log Format box, click Properties.
Next to Log file name, you can see a path and file name, such as W3SVCxx\exyymmdd.log. The number replacing the xx after W3SVC is the virtual server ID.
On the IIS server, click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click Open.
Change to the Inetpub\Adminscripts folder, by typing the following line, where Drive is the drive where Windows is installed: cd Drive:\inetpub\adminscripts
To see the currently-configured authentication, type the following line, and then press ENTER, where xx is the virtual server ID number: cscript adsutil.vbs get w3svc/xx/NTAuthenticationProviders
Note: The virtual server ID of the Default Web site in IIS is 1.
If the virtual server is configured for NTLM it will return the following value: NTAuthenticationProviders: (STRING) "NTLM"
If the virtual server is configured for Kerberos it will return one of the following two statements: NTAuthenticationProviders: (STRING) "Negotiate,NTLM" The parameter "NTAuthenticationProviders" is not set at this node.
To enable NTLM on the virtual server, type the following line, and then press ENTER, where xx is the virtual server ID number: cscript adsutil.vbs set w3svc/xx/NTAuthenticationProviders "NTLM"
Note: The virtual server ID of the Default Web site in IIS is 1.
Restart IIS.

I checked both of mine and they all show NTLM authentication.
I am still experiencing problem whenever I try to crate team project and the error is always that the connection to Windows Sharepoint Service cannot be established. I see that there is a number of prolbme with the similar problem. Is this a bug in this build or is this something that can be solved? Thanks.
