Error You are not a valid account when accessing a team project

Hello,

We have just set up a Team Foundation Server, it appears that all the users have been setup correctly, but when I try to access a team project from my local machine using my windows login I receive the error "you are not a valid account", so although things look ok they are probably not.

I would appreicate any suggestions or assistanct in resolving this issue.

Thanks!
Catherine

Catherine,

I'm going to pass your question on to one of the folks on the product team. In the meantime, can you help me with some additional information.

Is your account, the one you are using from your local machine, the one you used to setup TFS or used to define the 'Service' account? If neither, then did you use the client to add your identity to the correct groups so you can access the project?

Hi Marc,

I'm not actually the one who set up the TFS, but from I can tell it looks like the settings are ok.

I connect to our TFS from my local desktop using remote desktop and login as the "teamadministrator", this login gives me full control over the TFS. I have added a project and then checked the permissions for all users under the "Team", permissions I have given the group to which I am assoicated full control, but when I return to the client and login to the team server with my own domain login, domain\cfarrell, which is what is specificed under the group I still receive the message "you are not a valid account". Also I have even tried to reference my domain login specifically, domain\cfarrell, but instead of retaining the actual domain specified it reverts to "CORP\cfarrell". I'm not sure if I have answered your question, something tells me the answer here is a simple one, it is just one of those many things I just don't know, yet, but being a such a novice......

Thanks for your assistance,

Regards,

Catherine

I am having the same problem with TFS. I have installed TFS successfully. And then I followed the instructions here:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=1&q=http%3A//blogs.msdn.com/vstsue/articles/422773.aspx&ei=PDfUQsvSDr7s4AGfjpXPDQ&sig2=1UVrwl2nt4v4CRrrrhsf6Q
To setup the accounts that I am using. I have verified it several times. However, I still get the same error:
Error
You are not a valid account. Please contact the team system administrator(s).
I recheck permissions again. Things are fine.
Any help, please? My development group is attempting to evaluate team sever for adoption. Otherwise, we'll just end up using sourcesafe.
Thanks,

The July CTP has dropped, and has significant changes to how security works in TFS. Please try this version.

Hello Bruce,

Thanks for your reply, but after reviewing the details pursuing this as a solve this solution isn't very comforting. According to Buck Hodges, http://blogs.msdn.com/buckh/archive/2005/07/11/437820.aspx, the July CTP requires two servers, quote from blog refereced above: "Unfortunately, I was told that the July CTP won't be able to do that. You'll need separate machines for the application tier and data tier."

Is this true?

At this point I will continue to try to resolve the security issue with the existing install. If you or anyone has any tips on this I would sincerly appreciate the advice.

Regards!
