Please provide us with more details. Specifically, where are you seeing this error?

Is this in Messenger, or at a Windows Live website?

Ok, I recieved the same error message when I downloaded the beta. Finaly got the sucker to work and here are all the steps/things I tried.

#1 Enable "auto detect settings" in IE -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Lan Options
#2 Setup an Internet Connection in IE -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Setup (Being that my router handes my DSL connection I just selected an always on connection with no signin... adjust as needed)
#3 Reset my security options in IE -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Default Level (I also tried it on "Low" however I'm daring and don't mind reinstalling if something breaks... change at your own risk)
#4 Closed down McAfee (Or whatever equivilant your using) Also go into the task manager and hunt down every process associated with McAfee as well as MSN Messenger Beta (After closing the beta to reload I found 5 associated processes still clinging to life and had to kill them individualy)
#5 Set the router to list the current comp as a DMZ, (When MSN tried to repair whatever was wrong it hung on key ports for about 20 minutes... figured a safe bet would be to open everything and see if it was an actual port issue)
#6 Went on Live.com and signed in manualy.

Unfortunitly I didn't test between 5 and 6 and after step 6 everything worked althought MSN crashed twice before finaly loading correctly, first boot it couldn't pull any of my contacts list however this was easily fixed with a reload. Not sure if any of this will help anyone as this doesn't seem to previlant of an issue. Good Luck.

I will not close down my security just to get this thing to work.

I will wait tell all the bugs are out of this prog. Windows messenger works with all my security progs running "so i will just stick with it tell then.

Thanks Uleepera for your help.

Just go to live.com and register with your MSN login and password first. After that everything is OK.

Hey Friends... I'm really so afraid with some Windows/MSN Developers, what kind of Impact Analysis they do? I've got the last windows security update and my messenger stoped to work! Incredible, isn't it? The same error code has been reported to me... what the hell can I do? I'm using MSN 7.5 version and I really don't update to Live version because I don't wanna be a dummy tester in this "beta" (yes... beta, yet!).

I'm wainting for your reply... thanks.

strange im also geting this error with a other one funny thing i use to be able to log on before 12/09/06 these are the errors i recive 8004882c / 81000314 im still useing messenger 7.5 cause i dont have any likeing for the new one

my firewall and program config has not changed at all in anyway
reason i say this is cause when i managed to get all my programs working and all my tweeks done

i gosted my hard drive with norton gost so im convinced
its something msn has changed for myself not to be able to get in to msn messenger for whatever reason im not guessing it would be a good one !

i also reset my router and motem and ran my gost copy and still no loggin
the messenger status screen says its operational
but my (messenger / options / conection) says im curently not conected

What I did was, go to hotmail and sign in, and right after it, I could sign in into the Messenger

I don't know why it was acting this way all day long
