I'm working on a diploma thesis, to create a logon in vista with a biometrical card.
I'm looking for information about how ICredentialProvider is working. And how is it possible to overwrite the normal logon process.

You may encounter some tricky issues, bugs, etc., so please post your experiences in this thread.
Also, MS released some working samples of Credential Providers, which you can download, understand and build in VS:

Note that the online documentation for ICredentialProvider interface, related interfaces and especially structures is obsolete and misleading as the interface evolves with the new builds of Vista (hopefully, it seems to be already final since Vista Beta 2 SDK).
Finally, if you still can't find the answers, you can ask MS directly on credprov@microsoft.com.
