taskbar tooltips - please fix!

In Windows XP, if you put the taskbar at the top of your screen, as I do, the taskbar button tooltips appear on the taskbar andobscurethe buttons- very annoying! Of course, if the taskbar is at the bottom of the screen you don't have this problem, the tooltips appear above the bar, no matter where the exact position of the pointer is.

The fix is to always display the tooltip below the taskbar if the bar is at the top of the screen. I like the feel of Windows XP, and I'll probably like Windows Vista too, but this minor point about taskbar tooltips is actually quite important because it affects my experience constantly.

Thank you!

Taskbar tooltips are a lot different in Windows Vista: you get live thumbnails of the windows. And, no, they don't block the taskbar any more. :)

You probably need to unlock the taskbar and then click and drag the taskbar (from a blank spot on the toolbar) down to the bottom of your screen.

Hey anyone think that having the tool bar on the left with the start button at bottom instead of at top would be a real good idea?

I have a widescreen, so I like having the toolbar on the left, but i would still like to have the start button at the bottom of the screen for all those people who want to sit down at my computer and complain that they aren't used to having the start button in the upper left. I have gotten used to it, but I could get used to it being at the bottom too.

I Googled a remedy to this problem.

Click "Sort by Name" when right-clicking one of the folders in the Programs menu in the start menu.

I don't think this should be offered as a true remedy. The undesireable behavior has to do with the window layering of the taskbar and other windows that appear "above" the desktop. The procedure will work when you perform it, however other right-click actions will cause the tooltip behind taskbar problem to resurface just as quickly.

Well that's really nice for all those Vista

users. What about XP? This bug has existed for ages; I was flabbergasted when

XP SP2 didn’t fix it. If I was Bill this bug would have been fixed ages ago and

there would still be MS employees walking around with sore behinds.

Hi there.

I also like to have the taskbar on the left of a widescreen notebook running windows XP but like it fatter so i can see day and date as well.

Problem - even though the taskbar is locked on restarting the system after shutdown the taskbar automatically resizes smaller again and won't stay the same size (this doesn't happen if the taskbar is at the top or bottom of the screen). Does anyone know if there a

fix for this problem? Help please!
