Posting reply goes back to reply page with an empty reply

Since yesterday I have sometimes experienced that posting a reply just returns me to the reply page without actually posting the reply.

There is no clear path to reproduce this. I click to reply to a thread and start to write my reply. I usually look up some references in another tab and adds it to the reply. When I am done I click Post and I get returned to the page I got to when clicking Reply in the beginning.

After the first time I got this I have tried to copy my entire body of the reply before posting. When I remembered to do this and just pasted it into the reply box and clicked post again the post was successfully posted. No errors reported.

As some replies take time to write it might be timeout related but I do not feel that it has been an excessive amount of time between reply and post.

Apparantly I am not alone. I am actual able to post if I retry but I got an e-mail from another user today that have not been able to post to the forums at all.

If i push on post it is like it refreshes. It loads the same screen over and over.
I tried it in IE and in Firefox same effect.

Yeah, I've lost many posts that way. I think it has something to do with Microsoft Passport. From time to time, the browser thinks it needs to login again. You briefly see login.com flash on the address bar. If it works, it just dumps you back to the post screen with your reply gone. Sometimes, the Passport login server is broken and you see it endlessly trying to login without getting anywhere. I use Firefox... When I notice it takes more than a few seconds to post my reply, I wildly start clicking the back button to preserve my post so I can Ctrl+C the contents. Sometimes that works...

I noticed today that if I press Cancel or No (I don't remember the specifc button) when I'm presented with the dialog that preceeds going to the login page after pressing Post, the post is cancelled and I can copy my message to the clipboard before posting to avoid losing my work.

I've also found that when this dialog occurs and I press No (or Cancel) the press Preview, instead of Post, I can preview then post without losing my work.

..don't know why this works around the problem; but, it would sure be nice to get this fixed.

Are you using multiple browsers/tabs?

I am using IE7 with multiple tabs. I suspect they share some cookies/sessions and if one times out others do too resulting in re-logons losing content.

I get the problem with the latest version of IE6 (not 7). It seems to happening more frequently in the last couple of weeks, if anyone on the dev. team is listening in.

I've also had this too, I think it's just maintainence and with the new software updated for the forums, that maybe causing the problem

Remember the Live Messenger has also been released so they are still probably working on the .NET passport features/functionality at the same time.
