Microsoft SQL Server Runtime License details needed

Hi,

I would like to get more information regarding Microsoft SQL Server Runtime License since I couldn't find any information about this from anywhere.

I'm mainly concerned about embedding SQL Server into our product as part of the ISV program. Do I just get the released version of SQL Server and add it to our product installation disks?

thanks

Q.What is Microsoft SQL Server Runtime?

A.

SQL Server Runtime is a license that allows an independent software vendor (ISV) to embed the complete SQL Server code into its solution for use only by the ISV's application. The customer of the ISV is restricted from using this SQL Server product to run other applications or to develop new applications, databases, or tables.

Hello Jose,

I believe the program best suited to your needs would be the ISV Royalty Licensing Program. You can find more information on this program at https://partner.microsoft.com/40010439 or http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/programs/isv/default.mspx.

This program does cover SQL Server 2005 Runtime licenses.

Brenda,

My company is currently enrolling in the ISV Royalty program. We have a product that we want to use runtime SQL with. Assuming that there is no sql licensing on the target machine do we need to purchase just cals or do we need embeded server plus cals.

Thanks

Craig,

SQL CALs are licenses that allow a user (or device) to work with SQL Server. In the Royalty Program, if your solution includes SQL Server then you must provide your customers a copy of (and license for) SQL Server. If you license the customer in the Server/Client model then you need to provide CAL(s) along with the Server License.
