Unable to play WMV on WMP10 on PocketPC
I'm not sure if this is right place to ask this question, apologies if I'm out of line.
I'm trying to play a video file (encoded as Windows Media Player 9 Screen) on a Pocket PC running Windows Media Player 10 Mobile on Windows Mobile 2003 SE (it's a Dell Axim X50v). I get the sound but no picture, so I'm guessing I'm missing the WMP9 Screen codec. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Thanks in advance.
that definitely would be caused by a situation in which you do not have the proper codec available.
Question though: (1) are you certain what codec the video was encoded with, and (2) are you certain of the version of WMP on your device?
WMP10 does play media encoded with WMP9.
Also: can you play the file on your desktop with no problems?
Thanks for taking the time to reply Larry.
(1) Yes, the properties for the video(s) as displayed in Windows Media Player 10 on my desktop and my PDA both tell me it is 'Windows Media Video 9 Screen'. Icidently, the video(s) in question are the MSDN Nuggets, available here: http://www.microsoft.com/uk/msdn/events/nuggets.aspx
(2) My PDA is definitely running Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for Pocket PC, specifically it's 'Version 10.0 Build 14280'.
Finally, yes I can play the video(s) on my desktop without any problems at all.
OK, sorry for the delay here. I've spoken to the actual developer for WMP10 on Windows Mobile, and he tells me that the Screen Codec is simply not supported on Windows Mobile.
I'll forward this information on to the Channel 9 or MSDN folks and see if we can get them to change to a codec that is supported on mobile.
Thanks,
Larry Lieberman, [MS], Windows Mobile
Hi,
Am trying to play wmv file using WMP on windows mobile 5.0. WMVDECODER.dll, WMADecoder.dll 's are getting loaded. Am able to here the audio part, but no video on the display. i was wondering here the problem is?
do i need to set any registry setting before playing the file. how do i proceed further. pls suggest me regarding this issue.
Thanks
I did not have any problems with wmv on my windows mobile 5 phone. But I did use a converter though. Try blaze media pro, you should have no problems with the wmv converted from it (customizable frame rates so try a different one if one doesn't work).
