Sorry, but you cannot. It is not possible to install IIS on XP Home. But you could
install Cassini web server. (Look at the gotdotnet website). In VS 2005 you can develop websites/services without the need for IIS.
i dont have any win xp professional or server cd so i grabbed the two files from
XP home only
but its not working.
will there be any difference in files from XP home ond win 2K
plz help me out
thanx
So I think without these cd's you're lost.
If had this problem a while ago. I tried several "solutions" on the net but none were satisfying. Reading the newsgroup I found Cassini:
http://www.asp.net/Default.aspx?tabindex=6&tabid=41
When you install VS 2005 you'll notice that the built-in Web Server looks a lot like the Cassini webserver.
| Hi, Windows XP Home Edition does not include IIS or PWS. You can install Windows Server 2003 Trial and get IIS 6 with it: Regards, |
hi to all
I will like to share one thing that performance is awesome. Its been approximately since 6 months i started using IIS on windows XP home.
Well, then how? How did you install IIS on windows XP Home Edition 6 months ago?
I tried doing it my self by copying all files having iis in the name (iismui.dll, iisext.dll....) from system32 folder of a Windowx XP Pro to system32 folder of a Windows XP Home Edition, but it didn't work.
What did you do?

AFIK you cannot get IIS running on XP Home edition. One of the alternatives is to download:
This comes with a lightweight web server.
Why do you and some others say that when so many have succeeded? After all Windows XP Home is just a crippled version of Windows XP Pro.
I installed IIS 5.0 on Windows XP Home using information I gathered from several sources on the internet. It is running fine so far.
BTW, the "pippo_xp.asp" link that a lot of people have been referring to is broken. I have not seen the information there yet.

Here are some images from my laptop running Windows XP Home on it. It is now running IIS 5.0 acquired from Windows 2000 disk.
firstly the thread is in the incorrect forum, best to post your question over at the appropriate communities:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities
secondly, it is NOT possible to install and use IIS on XP Home. It was taken out for a reason and there was a reason for creating a Home and Professional Edition.
