64-bit .NET Framework won't install
Thanks,

Thanks,

I've had some similar problems with installing Visual Studio C++ .NET Framework 1.1 on a AMD 64 HP notebook running XP Pro, SP2, 32-bit OS. If you haven't already read my latest posting on this forum, check it out. The BIOS settings may not apply, but it may help to update your machine.
Good luck!

XP x64 SP1
.net Framework install fails, as do the VS.net 2005 express IDEs.
I am also having the same problem the VS.net 2005 Express.
.Net 2.0 will not install and so the VS program will not install.
There is even a .Net 2.0 (x64) update on the Windows Update and it refuses to install from there also.
VS Express is a really cool program and I am itching to check it out and it will not install.

I did not think of that since the computer was only 6 months old.
I did perform a BIOS update and there were 2 newer revisions from mine.
I have a Dell Precision 380 64 Bit System.
Unfortunately it did not work.
I believe that it has something to do with Installer 3.1 which is default on this OS and there is now way to re-install or update it that I know of. I believe I am going to have to wait for an update for the next Installer that is released.
Thanks anyway.
Michael,
Here is the response that I received from HP. I followed this procedure and I was able to successfully install the sw. One of the things that I constantly observed was the conflict with all of programs XP was launching at startup and the installation of the .NET programs.
Hope this helps; I know how annoying this can be!

Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
I am sorry to hear about the issue you are experiencing. From your
description I understand that you get the "Setup has detected that
another program requires the computer to reboot. You must reboot the
computer before installing Visual Studion Prerequisites. Once the system
reboots, you need to restart setup. Click OK to reboot. Click Cancel to
exit setup and install later" error message. I appreciate your time and
efforts in trying to resolve the issue. Let me assist you in this
regard.
Tad, I would like to inform you that thismay happen due to incorrect
BIOS settings. To resolve the issue I recommend you to perform the
following steps:
**** Power drain Process ****
1. Shut the computer down.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery.
3. Press the power button down for about 30-60 seconds.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter and the battery.
5. Restart the computer.
This will remove all the static charge present on the notebook.
**** BIOS Reset ****
1. Turn on or restart the computer.
2. Press the F10 key when the Press F10 to enter system utility message
is displayed on the HP Invent screen.
3. Under Exit menu, select the option "Load Setup Defaults."
4. Click Enter.
**** BIOS Update ****
Install the latest BIOS update from the following link:
OR
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software5/COL10450/ob-33854-1/SP31104.exe
NOTE: Clicking the link may give an error indicating it is invalid.
Copy and paste the entire link in a new browser window.
***** Prevent startup programs from launching *****
Many software programs start up and run silently in the background.
Most of these programs are not necessary to perform work on a computer.
Use the following steps to prevent undesired programs from starting
with Windows.
NOTE: By completing this step, Windows will run using selective
startup. A small reminder window may appear when Windows
starts.
1. Click Start, then Run.
2. Type the following into the open field: msconfig
3. Click OK and the System Configuration Utility will appear.
4. Click the General tab and remove the check from Load Startup
Items.
5. Click OK to accept the changes and restart the computer.
6. When the Windows desktop appears, restart the computer again. If
the computer shuts down normally, then another program was running
that Windows was unable to properly shut down. If Windows still
fails to shut down, then continue to the next step.
7. To undo the changes repeat Step 3, numbers one through four and
place a checkmark next to Load Startup Items.
Now try to reinstall the MS Visual C++ .NET 1.1 on your notebook.
Please get back to me with observations and results because it is
important that I resolve your issue in a timely manner. I would like to
add that we value your precious time and would be here round the clock
to serve you.
Sincerely,
James W

Hi, I'm trying to load Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition - Community Technology Preview June 2005. I have an AMD 64 bit Athlon processor and I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2. I understand that .NET x64 is required but the install fails with the message "error creating process, reason = Windows\system32\advpack.dll. Can anyone help me out with this one? Thanks,
Marta
Marta,
.Net 2.0 x64 is intended for Windows XP x64 Edition. You have a 64 Bit processor but you are running a 32 bit Version of Windows and therefore .Net x64 will not install.
You can however install .Net 2.0 - 32 bit version for XP Pro and then you will be able to setup your SQL server.
Here is link for .Net 2.0
Hope this helps

Add Remove Programs reports the following (x64) programs ...

MS SQL SERVER 2005

BTW this is a fresh install because I was completely and utterly unable to uninstall SqlServer2005 which was necessitated by foolishly installing Office 2007 (Office 2003 being no longer available!)
