"Check In - Work Items" window number hours spent

I think the "Check In - Work Items" window should have a column for number of hours spent on the files being checked in. Otherwise the flow is disrupted by the developer having to go into team explorer, find the work item and change the appropriate field.

Why is it that when you double-click on a work item in the "Check In - Work Item" window that all the editable fields are greyed out?

That window for work items in pending checkins cannot be customized, so while I agree with you - we're stuck with what it is for V1.

OK. Then to my other question.

You'll be happy to know that in the current code double-clicking on a work item in the work item channel of the checkin dialog or pending change tool window will show the work item in an editable form.

It doesn't look like this was fixed. I have the Beta 3 refresh version and the work item is still not editable.

It depends on where you are double clicking. I you are using the pending checkin tool window, double clicking on a work item will open an editable document window. If you are using the checkin dialog, double clicking on a work item will pull up an uneditable modal dialog. I don't know why this dialog is uneditable but I'll ask about it.

The behavior depends on where you launch it. From the Source Control Explorer and the command line, the work items are editable (at least in the current code). However, check-in dialog launched from right clicking Solution Explorer launches a read-only work item dialog. Beta 3 may be different from what I've described, but as Brian says, we'll look into the read-only case.

One of the major benefits of VSTS is that "metrics are captured transparently". One of the metrics we are concerned about capturing is number of man-hours spent on each work item. Streamlining this process is extremely important. Is it "by design" to have the work item in read only state if it is launched from the check-in dialog?

No, we've just checked in fixes for this, so it will work in the next drop. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

From the Pending Changes window (View > Other Windows > Pending Changes), double-clicking (or right-click Open) on a work item in the Work Items channel opens the work item in an editable VS document.

When the Work Item channel is hosted in one of the following modal dialogs, double-clicking on a work item in the Work Items channel used to open the work item in a read-only modal form. We recently added a change to make the modal work item forms editable.

* Check In dialogs from Solution Explorer, Source Control Explorer, and from the command line
* Shelve dialog
* Shelveset Details dialog
* Changeset Details dialog
