XML, Excel in vb.net

i never deal with this issue before. i want to generate the excel file from a datagrid.
after reading some posting, somebody talk about xml, and some are excel. i totally confuse.

it i must convert it to xml first then conert second time to excel? or i can just convert it to excel directly?

Anyone know about it?
