I'm having trouble with getting Vista Beta 1 to boot on my Dell Dimension 9100. What is appropriate forum to discuss this?

Hello Brian,
Perhaps you could describe the installation problems you are having, and the maybe we could offer our advice.
Kind Regards,
Bryan
I don't have a whole lot of information. I have a Dell Dimension 9100 with an Intel Advanced graphics card (the exact model not on hand). I have a Dell 2005FP monitor. I run WinXP on this box with no problems. I installed Longhorn Beta 1, and the installation proceeded without any problems.
The screen starts up with the Longhorn splash screen (grayscale bitmap against black), and then the screen goes dead (no signal from the computer either). Judging from the hard disk light, there's no further loading.
Starting up in Safe Mode does work.
How would I proceed in narrowing down the problem?
Thanks,
Brian
You can discuss installation problems in the microsoft.public.longhornhelp newsgroup.
i recently installed vista on my computer and it crashed. It keep rebooting over and over. Problem is the keyboard is locked and i cant a access the setup to undo or re install xp..
what can i do to fix this?
When I tried to install vista I got a message to update the following driver:
ATAPI CD-ROM Interface card
I have a sony vgn-a690 laptop and have updated ALL drivers to the latest. I don't actually have this device in the device manager. I have a sony cd/dvd rw. I tried loading a generic atapi cd-rom driver but i still get the error. i've gone to the sony site and updated all drivers with the latest. but I still get this erro when I try to update my os to vista.
thanks

I have the same problem with Vista Beta2 install on a Dell laptop.
I am trying to install Beta 2 (32 bit) on a Dell Latitude C400 (with 60GB HDD, 1GB RAM, PIII 1400MHz processor) and I am getting the following warning/error and can’t proceed further. The ## Start warning/error Is there a workaround? Where can I download the driver? I tried a few web sites to download thedriver but with no luck. Getting the same error about "ATAPI CD-ROM Interface Card".
dell C400 is running XP and passes all the requirements of Vista Advisor except the below.
You must make the following changes before installing Windows
Close Windows installation and contact the device manufacturer for updated driver software for these devices:
ATAPI CD-ROM Interface Card
## End warning/error
Thanks

Hi, I have installed many versions of vista on my Dell Latitude C400.
(Display adapter: Intel 830m)
They al worked fine without any problems, that is all versions older than vista rc2.
But with vista rc2 and the official release (I bought Vista Bussiness), I have to install the display drivers manually, no problem with that installation completes succesfully.
Performance is great and all software works.
But automatically vista removes this driver on the next boot, result: vista loads default display driver with a resolution of 640*480 16bits.
I've no idea why vista uninstalls my display driver on each boot because it works fine and if I go to properties of my display adapter it says "device works correct".
This is the text mentioned when I open the device manager and go to the properties of my display adapter (dutch):
Dit apparaat werkt correct.
De stuurprogramma's voor dit apparaat worden verwijderd op het moment dat de computer opnieuw wordt opgestart. Alle wijzigingen die u voor dit apparaat hebt aangebracht gaan verloren.
U dient de computer opnieuw op te starten om de aan dit apparaat aangebrachte wijzigingen door te voeren.
It says:
This device works correctly.
The drivers for this device will be removed when the system reboots. All changes that u made for this device will be lost.
U need to reboot your computer in order to apply the changes.
I'm really dissapointed when I have to read something like that.
Why would anyone want to delete a driver without reason while knowing that it works perfectly.
I have been searching for hours on the internet but I haven't found anything yet.
Is there anyone who has an idea how to solve this problem?
Is there someone having the same problems as me?
Thanks
Hi,
I have found a medicine for problem with chip 830M and Vista
download this driver and try it to install. you get a error, but the driver should work after the reboot.
another way to install this driver is: extract the downloaded file "win2k_xp147.exe" with winrar and install the driver manually (control panel>system>Device Manager>...>update driver)
good luck
hi! Brain
boot into vista from safe mode and > click on start and in 'search now' bar type "msconfig" > it woll open 'system configuration' utility > in that u will see 'general' tab> with 3 options 1) Normal startup
2)Dignostic startup
3)Selective startup
click on selective startup > as soon as u will click on selective startup > below 2 options will be hilighted > uncheck 2nd option that is 'load startup items'
then go to services tab on the top of that window and click on 'hide all microsoft applications' and then click on 'disable all' , and then "apply" and "ok" > "exit without resrtarting windows" .
after this u have to 'right click' on computer and select 'properties' > and in that select 'device manager' > in device manager disable network adapror, graphic card and then restart the computer , this time u will successfully able to boot into vista in normal mode > and then from normal mode try to enable each hardware one by one and restart the comp to see that particular driver is causing a problem or not, if yes thae try to update the driver.
If this fails then open 'msconfig' > go to services windows> hide all microsoft services > and then select few non microsoft services and leave rest as it is, then restart the comp, if u got the error then it means that one of the selected app is causing the problem then u have to focus only on the selected services, then try to uncheck few of the previously services and restart, if again got an error then repete the same again with the left selected services> like this u will narrow down the serrch and then in the services windows it will tell u that this service belongs to which problem then delete that program from ur comp.
If after scaning all the services the problem still persists then do the same for 'startup items' > but in startup items if u found any startup item causing problem then u have to delete that registry entry from registry.
Any ideas?
Did you ever fix this Ocrkass?
