Beta 2 & Nvidia Geforce go 6200

Hi,

I have just installed Vista Beta 2 and cannot get Windows to display the much-hyped glass theme. I find this puzzling given that the Nvidia Geforce go 6200 is listed as one of the "Vista ready" graphics cards. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Kind Regards,

Ben.

Hi,

Well, I'm using Colorful GeForce 6600, with 512MB of RAM, and I got all the glass effects, the animation effects (as we minimize windows, open or close windows); I used a PC without additional graphics card having those effects as well. I wonder what is the main source of being not getting the effects.

Best regards,

Stephen Saw

Hi,

Thanks for answering! I have now in fact solved the problem, but I'm not quite sure why what I did works. For the reference of anyone else who has this problem and finds this thread, I took the following steps:

  1. inserted the original recovery CD including drivers (and of course cancelled the autorun)
  2. "updated" the graphics driver from the device manager and installed the original driver from the CD
  3. upon rebooting, the graphics are even worse with only the "basic" option available
  4. open the device manager again (without the CD inserted) and again, update the graphics driver
  5. the Microsoft variant is installed over the original Nvidia driver and following a re-boot, all effects, including transaparencies, are working

The only remaining annoyance is the fact that with the original drivers, Vista knew that the card had 256Mb of graphics memory. With the Microsoft variant it thinks it only has 32Mb! All of this explains why I am not going to replace my desktop PC until Vista is available as a factory installed OS! That said though, it is a pleasure to use if you ignore the bugs!

Kind Regards,

Ben Adamson.

I can get the drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce Go 6200 TE 64M / 6600 TE 128M (Microsoft Engineering Release - WDDM) via windows update. However, the driver doesn't work at all (causes a blue screen, or since the July 5 latest WU patches simply reverts to generic VGA driver). I'm running into this problem on with Windows Vista beta 2 on my toshiba m4 laptop. If anyone knows a fix for this, please let me know.

I'm trying to use the latest driver from windows update (as of July 5, 2006) , as this is the only place I can find to get the driver, as I can't find how to download a vista driver for the Nvidia GeForce Go 6.x series from their site.

Well i don't get the drivers from microsoft update as you said. The only way I can get vista with the aero style is to use the 6200 drivers that came with vista 5384 and 5456. BUT it seems like it brings me an other problems, it crashes internet explorer. So I've uninstalled that 5456 until I can find the real drivers of the go 6600. If you find it could you tell me.

Thanks Francois

Have you tried to go on shoptoshiba.com site under technical support. There are many drivers and I have a Toshiba M3 and the version of NVIDIA GeForce Go 6200 TE 64M / 6600 TE 128M is 7.1.1.4 even though it is telling me I need to update to 7.1.4.1 - Versiontracker.com will also tell you what version you should be running but you need to compare that with the Toshiba notes to obviously make sure of compatibility.
