1) Reply to a post with 'Alert Me' check box checked
2)I open the mail thread in another window, I still see the 'Alert me' at top left of the thread.. When I click it, it turns to 'unsubscribe'.
Does that mean that 1) didnt work?
The alert isn't working for me, either.
I have it checked and set up correctly, as far as I can tell, but I never get any mail when a topic gets replied to.

What do you mean "open the mail thread in another window"? The alerts will only go to your Passport email address that you used to sign up for the forums--are you sure that you've gone through the registration for alerts and you are checking the appropriate email address?
All the threads I have participated in still has the Alert Me button just above the first post. If I click that button it changes to an unsubscribe button.
When I exit the thread and re-enter it the page it show the Alert Me button again, even though I just clicked it and saw it change to unsubscribe.

2: Click Alert Me, see it change to Unsubscribe

4: It shows Alert Me, even though I just subscribe for alerts for the thread.
Well, the very point that I was never 'alerted' about replies to this thread took me this long to manually check this thread and reply !!
Open in another window = Click on the thread either by shift+click.
I verified in the 'My Threads' page that all the threads were shown with a status 'Unsubscribe' => I am subscribed to all the threads... I also verified the same by clicking 'Modify alert settings' that my email check box is indeed checked and the e-mail ID is correct..
