Rendering to Excel Takes Hours on SQL2000 RS

We have a report that we render to excel both from IE and through subscriptions. When trying to export to excel from IE it just hangs for hours. If we have a subscription send the report as an excel file attached to an email it may go out 8 hours after it starts rendering.

This report rendered to excel fine at one time, but now it doesn't. I have seen posts about data having an affect on excel rendering in the sense that as the data changes the report begins to misbehave during rendering to other formats.

We have SRS 2000 SP2 and hotfix installed. Other reports render instantly to excel.

Anyone know where to begin with this issue. I followed one post by adding +0 at the end of every field and expression but that didn't resolve the issue.
