Anti-Piracy Security

I have this scary feeling that people are going to eventually figure out how to use XNA Game Studio Express to right code that will take advantage of the 360 hardware and allow booting of pirated(non-stamped and signed) games. What steps has MS taken to avoid this? And if or when this happens will the "rights" and options open to the amauter devs be limited(Limited library uses or such)

I really am looking foward to developing for my beloved 360 but I don't want anyone to ruin the fun.

Hi Molex. Indeed, it is important that we protect games from being pirated. Beyond that we can't comment further about this issue.

This is one of the main reasons they won't release the GSE for Xbox 360 at beta due to security issues. By the time it is released for Xbox 360 I'd expect it to be very, very tight on security.

Only allowing managed code will help in security, by paying and signing up they may be able to tell who compiled any binaries so if you did put out something bad they can shut you down. But this is just my guess or how I would do it.

Unfortunately you can already do this on the 360 - so I don't think it matter that much now.

Boot pirated copies of games....Sorry I wasn't really that clear now that I re-read it.

Well you are sort of correct

One of the mod teams found a way to use flash the DVD-ROM Firmware, but I wouldn't suggest trying that as you will get banned from Live and thus not be able to use XNA express

Not to mention:
AS A DEVELOPER IT IS ONLY FAIR TO SUPPORT OTHER DEVELOPERS HARD WORK

Can you do that and still access Live? I would think there would be some kind of validation.

I don't think so. People would be scared to do it anyway. I'm sure Microsoft can do a check for the DVD firmware on boot. If it's not already there...

Yes so far (3 months and counting) you can boot burned copies and go on live. Hopefully there will be a patch soon and these fools will at least be kicked of the live network to make it less tempting for the masses.
