Problem downloading visual basic

I recently restarted my system, which had visual basic 2005 express edition, and i downloaded it with no problems. However, when i restarted the system and tried to download Visual Basic or Visual C++(fromhttp://download.microsoft.com/download/C/E/3/CE3EB81B-12FE-4503-A566-0E0F49E4A5ED/vbsetup.exe ), nothing happens. I mean, it is a completely blank screen, and no download dialog appears. I tried to right click-save as, but the file was an html file. When i viewed the source, it just shows the <html> and a couple of other tags, none download related. I have internet explorer 7 beta 3, and i downgraded to 6 and temporarily disabled pop-up blockers and firewalls, but it still didnt work. What could be the problem?

This is strange because the link works for me.

Please do not post duplicates and to multiple forums. This is the correct forum for your question so this is the only thread that remains. I merged another thread that had reply, there was another reply too that reported success to download the vbsetup.exe.

Are you still having trouble starting the download?

I still cannot download. I have the latest version of BITS available, and also cannot download any of the Visual Studio programs, including web developer.

Do you get only blank pages in the browser (on all computers you try) instead of the download starts?

Have you looked in the event log if there is any additional info?

I would try to disable as much software as possible that might cause trouble. This includes download managers, browser toolbars, firewalls, proxies (the internet connection can not be depending on it), internet connection sharing (again, not if you are on a computer that depends on it), anti-virus/malware/spyware.

Only disable applications you are comfortable to be without when connected to the internet.

It seemed you had already checked this one out, if not it might give other leads what can be wrong

Yes, I have already checked the download troubleshooting page, it didn't help me. There are no programs that are contributing to the problem, and none of the computers on my LAN network can download it either.

Maybe you can try a few things to see if it gives clues to what is going on. Can you try some other microsoft downloads to see if they give similar result?

Windows Installer 3.1

Could you try to install firefox to see if the download problem persists?

Ok, I don't think I've changed anything, but now when i try to download it, the dialog appears, but a error says "Internet Explorer cannot download DNSERROR.HTM from shdoclc.dll ." underneath that, it says "Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

Are you behind a proxy? It sounds like your access to the website is being restricted. I think the best course of action at this point is to try another computer and download the installation files via manual installation, burn it to a cd and then try to install it on your own machine. Hopefully by doing this you will be able to at least install the application.
