error 1402 installing vs 2005

On a W XP OS, I'am getting the error

"Error 1402 could not open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

\Software\Classes\Msxml2.DomDocument.4.0\CLSID

Verify that you have

sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

My UserId has admin rights so I don't think that access rights are the problem.

Logged under the local admin account and tried again. Same error.

I tried on un other Pc and all is OK. Why?

I need help

Can you access that key directly yourself through regedit?

Try going there and adding a dummy value (remove it afterwards).

If you don't have access to it, neither will setup.

I am getting the same message too. The first time I tried to install a software for PC Nokia suite, it did the job alright. Just a day ago,it had some new updates to install, so I tried installing them, but then i came accrossed that message, now I do not know what to do. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but the same thing happened. Tried going into the Regedit, but would not know what to do. Please can anyone give me assistance please.

Thanks ANLO

For any one of a number of reasons, setup is unable to write to that registry key. Since it installs fine elsewhere, there is probably something wrong with the registry on that particular machine.

Since you seem unfamiliar with regedit, there is a risk of causing more damage than may already exist. I would recommend contacting technical support, as they'll need to walk you through this.

They can be contacted at http://support.microsoft.com
