Other Web Browser support
Hey guys,
Great work on the July CTP samples!
I was wondering, is IE7 the only web browser that can invoke InfoCards in CardSpace on the client? If so, any way or any plans to invoke from IE6 or FireFox?
Thanks,
Noremac

IE 6 will not be supported--IE 7 is the future, and frankly there should be no reason to have clients on IE6 when IE7 and CardSpace ship.
Alternative browser implementers can certainly call the public API to invoke the CardSpace identity Selector and get the token back in the exact same fashion as IE does.
The fastest way to do that on an alternative browser would be to build a plugin using the NPRuntime, something that is pretty darn trivial. It's almost like I know it could be done in a few hours. Really.

Actually there are many. The exact number will be the same number of XP Machines in the coporate environment in the world who may not upgrade to IE7 in the following immediate years. (Standard Operating Envs, Org Policies, blah blah)
I believe to help Cardspace reach mainstream, the backward compabitility must be there. The fact that WCF (my biggest love for MS tech since MTS/COM+ 1.0
)and Cardspace (2nd love
) are backward compatible is already and REALLY a good thing. The only missing gap is IE6. You limit your clients to just Windows Forms invoking Web Services.
I am involved in so many big public/private tenders that ask for innovation in authentication but the compliance list only stops at IE6. I cannot argue for Cardspace, in many of these instances. It is everyone's loss.
If the IE team is listening in, Cardspace / Object Parameters is not a competitive advantage feature of IE7. Tabbed browsing, RSS, usability, etc are. No reason not to have Cardspace supported in IE6 - unless security is the reason ?
Fellas - Ship a plug-in to IE6, please ?
Security is the reason.
IE 7 will be a Critical Security Update, and it vastly increases security of the system. Massive architecture changes create an environment that the possiblity of attack is significantly reduced.
IE 6 is not going to have CardSpace support. Given that CardSpace requires .NET 3.0, and that'll be a harder sell than a more secure browser, I think that you will see corporations doing both.

Hi,
You have a prototype Firefox Identity Selector that works with July CTP.
You need to create a Master Password to enable it.
Guillaume.
