Search Error
Hi,
I've been noticing that everytime I place a filter on my search in MSDN, the online searches (MSDN, Codezone, etc...) would result to an 'Invalid Token Error'. But the local search is just fine. Is this suppose t be a bug?
BTW, im usingMicrosoft Visual Studio 2005 Documentation in beta 2. Im using it coz MSDN generates an error upon opening...
cheers,
Paul June A. Domag
Thanks for reporting this issue, that's weird. We do have a known issue in Beta 2 where, if you check lots of filters, an error can occur.
Does this reproduce if you only select 1 filter checkbox from Language, Technology, and Content Type?
Thanks,
Jeremy Jones
Paul:
Thanks for the feedback. I am not able to repro your problem on a beta 2 build. However, there were a few bugs in search around the the time that beta 2 was released, and it does not surprise me too much that you are having problems in that area. Search is a complex feature because it relies not only on the Visual Studio Help system, but also on MSDN online and our partner sites.
Extensive work has been done on filters and online search since beta 2, and I am sure that you will have a MUCH improved experience with the RC and RTM versions.
If you would still like me to try to repro your scenario, please tell me:
1) What your search settings are (Local Only, Local First, or Online First)
2) What sites, if any, you have excluded from search
3) What filters you are applying.
4) What your search terms are

Hi,
Im just using beta 2 (first release). Well I guess you fixed it in the current builds. Or maybe its just being triggered by my faulty installation (MSDN won't open). We'll its beta anyway, and I can't wait to get my hands on a RC much more on the RTM!
I must admit, you guys there really improved the documentations...

Paul,
One thing that could help us diagnose your issue is to get a log of the WebService calls that the help viewer is making.
To do this, create a string value in the registry at this location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\Help
Name:
WebServiceCallLogFile
Value:
<path to some valid filename to which the log will be written>
Then, execute your failing scenario and email me the log file at jeremyj@microsoft.com.Thanks!

Paul,
Can you verify that your system time is correct? We've seen some similar issues when the user's machine has a system time that is off in some way or another (wrong time zone, wrong time, etc)
Thanks,
Jeremy
Hi,
Just verified my time and its quite fine. Not sure on the time zone though, I'm from the Philippines, should I use Taipei as the Time Zone? Or should I use another?
cheers,
