WDS 3.0 Beta2 / WDS 2.6.5 and PDF files / Adobe Reader 7.0

I see that PDF is not currently supported (unchecked filetype in Advanced; and thisPostID: 615984) in WDS 3.0 beta2, but I have had problems with 2.6.5 and one or other of the Adobe iFilters.

I'm not sure which iFilter version is currently installed. I have Reader 7.0.7 installed now.

Can anyone report iFilter which is most suitable for WDS 2.6.5 ?

I had frequent crashes of an already-running instance of Adobe Reader 7.0 when WDS 2.6.5 was previewing a PDF file, and I then right-clicked that filename in the top pane to open it with Adobe Reader. And less frequently, WDS itself closed when a PDF was being previewed. And a minor but annoying feature: when a PDF preview occurs, focus changes to the preview pane rather than staying in the top / filelist pane. This is annoying because if preview is "on", the user hasn't the ability to skip over PDF files quickly. (hard to explain, but it would be nice if the user experience in 3.0 were better than in 2.6.5).

I'm not having these issues. You should go and get the adobe iFilter. I know they just released a newer version and I'm using with WDS 3.0

I downloaded the latest iFilter Explorer from Citeknet and I can see that I have what I think is the latest Adobe iFilter (7.0) - in use since I installed WDS 2.6.5 or before.

I'll try enabling PDF in WDS 3.0 and see if it works - if that's what you're saying.

Edited: I find that in WDS 3.0 beta2 the PDF indexing and previewing is fine, and the incorrect focus change I described in 2.6.5 has been corrected (it now stays in the top pane, rather than switching into the PDF document).

Hi P Cause -

Would you be able to point to the location where you got the Adobe IFilter? The only one I can find is 6.0, which currently does not work with WDS 3.0 beta 2 - at least on my end. If that is the IFilter that you are using, would you maybe be able to tell me how you were able to get the preview working?

Thanks!

this thread is a bit old now... but I recently downloaded the new WDS tool from microsoft. The Adobe PDF iFilters availaible on the site are old (6.0 and still not compatible) the filter is now bundled with the software... so you can just download the more/most recent reader and it should work... hopefully... trying it now.
