a q about connecting a java app to a sql server 2005 db

hi,

i have a java application that connects to a SQL Server 2005 DB through Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver in a local machine (it does not make remote connections). i want to know how can i get a Connection from the DriverManager for a db that my App will connect to locally?(should my app user's install SQL Server 2005 in order to use my App and enable TCP/IP and SQL Server Browser...etc)?
