SQL Server Database Services (SQLExpress): Setup Failed. 1708 and 1603 and error 29528

I am trying to install SQL Express, but are getting a failure. The SQLSetUp_xxxx_SQL.log contains the following information? Who can help?

Can you supply the 10-20 lines above this error to help us debug? What OS are you installing on? Do you have any other SQL instances on the box?

Thanks,
Sam Lester (MSFT)

Thanks for your reply.

I am working with Windows XP Home SP2. I have IIS installed and running. I installed the beta version of SQL Express during March and are upgrading it now to SP1.

Therefore, I "removed" the old version. Now I am getting this error message at the end of installation.

Is this a new install or upgrade to SP1? If it is a new install it looks there are still some registry keys from lefh behind old installation. If you do not have any SQL Server on your box you can delete registry keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.# and run setup again.

Before installing the SP1, there was the Beta version which I had to "remove".

There were still entries in the registry of an old 2000 version.

I saw "80" and "90" under MSSQL.1.

In the meantine, I deleted the whole story and I installed the SP1 again. But there are still some "instances", etc around.
