VX3000 Webcam - Vista Errors

Does anyone else have any errors with the Microsoft VX3000 webcam on Vista, it worked fine under XP SP2, however i have tried using it on vista & Windows Live Messenger (Which its designed for), and it can load all the drivers etc, but always displays a black screen?.

Has anyone managed to get there VX3000 to run under vista, i am also unable to install the software again due to my OS not being Windows XP, and i have also tried running setup.exe with compatability mode (Win XP SP2), but it still tells me it could not run due to it not being windows XP

This issue is fixed in a later build. Unfortunately the fix did not make it in RC1 (5600).

I had the same issue. I am currently running Vista build 5728 on X64. I had loaded the driver off of the V 1.0 disk that came with the webcam with no joy. I went to the Microsoft Hardware site and downloaded the software for the VX3000. It is V 1.2. I can't get the software to run but, the driver that was included worked like a charm. No more black screen.

Here is the link to the download http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/digitalcommunication/downloads/default.mspx.

Good luck.

Hi, i was just wondering how did you just install the driver and nothing else. I tried to install the .msi file from the driver folder and that didn't work. Could you give me a step by step list of what you did? Appreciated a lot and thanks in advance.

Sure, you bet. If you have already installed the driver from the cd that came with the webcam do the following.

1. Download the VX3000 software using this link http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/digitalcommunication/downloads/default.mspx and unzip it.

2. Go to control pannel, system maintenace, device manager. Select Imageing Devices and + that out. You will see the Microsoft life cam VX3000.

3. Right click on the cam and then left click on properties. If you are not an Admin select " change settings". If you are an admin move to the next step.

4. Click on the driver tab and select update driver. Select "browse my computer for driver software"

5. Browse to the unzipped location of the files you just downloaded.

You should be all set! If you have not already installed a driver for the camera forget the above and plug the camera in and point to the unzipped software from the link above.

Good luck!

Have you tired plugging the WebCam into the USB port and then selecting to install the drivers off of the disk? I ran into the same issue and got several different error. I know the instructions say to install the drivers first and then the webcam but I went off a whim and just plugged the camera in, let the wizard try to install the drivers and then when prompted opted for the install drivers from a CD and it worked. I'm running RC 2 but it may work on RC 1.

I have the same problem. Vista RC-1 is a big pain with all my programs: Norton Password Manager, Quickens, Norton System Works. I would like to get the web cam to work since it is a microsift product. I am running RC-1. Anyone that can help please rply.
