Hello Cerw1n,
Vista Search is built upon the engine that is currently the heart of the WDS 3.0 beta preview. 3.0 is different in that the indexer runs as a Windows Service and not a user-mode application. This means that each system requires only one index - regardless of the number of users.
Group policy support will not be provided with the release of WDS that will come packaged with Vista as Vista Search. It will, however, be supported with subsequent releases.
As for existing add-ins (like protocol handlers and IFilters) they will require updates in order to work with Vista Search. I'm looking into just what updates will be required now.

Paul thanks for the reply. I think that is a good idea that it is moving to service based and ability to use one index will be very nice as well. I look forward to seeing the group policy support. Unless it is manageable I don’t think you can realistically use this beyond the local workstation in a business environment on 100+ PCs. If anything I would like to see additional functionality like the ability to create a master index from a server and point the clients Vista search at this index via GP. I know this in unrealistic however the more manageable it is the more successful it will be at the enterprise level. I look forward to the GP support and IFilter updates.
What happened with the ability to index network locations?
Its a shame that that feature is not available if the folder doesn't have "Make Available Offline" activated. There are many shares in the network that i dont need to make available offline cause im connected all the time, I just want fast searching capabilities for those folder.
Please implement this again Micrsoft
