Team Explorer installation error

Hello!

One of our developers has a Windows 2000 OS with SP4. She is trying to install Team Explorer from the CD and the installation fails with the following message

The following component failed to install:

Microsoft Data ACcess Component 2.8 SP1

The following components were not attempted:

...

It comes up with Microsoft error report as well.

Please assist!

Hi Sunny,

Is there an error number associated with the error message? Also, was the user following the installation guide (were all of the prerequisites installed)?

Hi Matt!

No error number associated. She was using the default buttons on the Team Explorer wizard (mostly Next--> Next--> Accept).

TFS installation was done with no issues and no other users have problem installaing Team Explorer.

Thanks!

So the problem was resolved? Was the resolution just to try the installation again?

Sorry if I miscommunicated. I meant to say that the error message doesn't have any number associated with it. The error still persists with the same message any time I do the installation.

To calrify, we were installing Team explorer on the user's machine from the Team Foundation Server RTM CD. The Team Explorer wizard installs the pre requisites by itself for other users but comes up with the first mentioned error message for this particualr user.

Is that user a member of the local Administrators group? If not, can you make them one long enough for them to attempt this install?

Hi James,

The user has local admin rights on her machine already.

Can you try installing TFC as a different user (but also a member of the local Administrators group) on that same machine?

Off-hand it sounds like MDAC's in a bad state, but verifying another admin gets the same error will help solidify whether that's the case or not.
