I'm getting the exact same error. When I click ok it gives the further error:
Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.Vsa,Version="7.0.5000.0",PublicKeyToken="b03f5f7f11d50a3a"
Do you have a previous beta installed on that machine?
Hi,
After I removed the file named mscoree.dll, I can install it completely.
Thanks for your information.

THIS DEFINITELY DID THE TRICK FOR ME!!! THANKS!!!! Dear Sir,

First it started with this error "Internal Error 2908 {7D4B5591-4C80-42BB-B0E5-F2C0CEE02C1A} and then continously up to another five errors.
This happen to me when I wanted to install .Net Framework for Visual Studio .Net 2003 installation

Many thanks.

Dear Sir,
Where to find this file named "mscoree.dll" ...?
Because when i run "file search" from windows it appear to show another error message that "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Then it close the search results.
Please inform me where is the file located.
Thanks.
regards,
I found the file in C:\windows\system32. I was able to delete it by rebooting and then sending to the recycle bin. After that I was able to install the .Net framework
Same thing as Kathi. Did anything work? I couldn't find msccree.dll in c:\windows\system32.
The actual file name is MSCOREE.DLL and I just dropped into a DOS command line and went to c:\windows\system32 and deleted mscoree.dll... I did not have to restart or anything... worked fine....

Hi,
After I removed the file named mscoree.dll, I can install office 2003 completely.
Thanks for your support & information.
I'm having the same problem but do not have the .dll file on a search of the entire hard drive. this is a new install of XP pro and I am trying to install Office 2003 pointing to a transform. These are the 2 error messages that I consistently get:
Product: Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 -- Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {53C65973-D89D-4EA0-8567-8788C14E0A02}. HRESULT: 0x8002802F. assembly interface: , function: CreateAssemblyCache, assembly name: Microsoft.Office.Interop.SmartTag,Version="11.0.0.0000",Culture="neutral",PublicKeyToken="71e9bce111e9429c",FileVersion="11.0.5530.0"
Product: Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 -- Error 2908. An internal error has occurred. ({D825F19F-87AB-11D5-A54F-0090278A1BB8}
I have the most current version of windows installer (3.1v2)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
Two possible solutions:
1. Remove mscoree.dll from system32 directory. Reboot not necessary. This should solve the problem.
2. Uninstall beta version. If you get the same error when uninstalling the beta version... go to beta folder and rename it to a different name then try Office2003 Installation.
If both of the above does not work, then the only other thing I can think of is to uninstall all of products related to HP including drivers. HP is known for bundling large stuff and causing problems with the .NET installer which Office 2003 is based on.
