New MSDN and old Microsoft Forum postings...

This is my first posting on the new-look MSDN and I must say how disappointed I am, when you compare it to the old Microsoft Forums!

I am trying to search for postings I made on previous Microsoft forums (by using the search engine and inputting my username) and there seems to be no way of finding these postings?!

Did Microsoft obliterate their old forums' library when they upgraded to new MSDN? Some of the answers that I was given to past problems are needed now and it seems I cannot access them - why not?! How can I gain access to my previous postings and their replies?

What is Microsoft doing... If this is their way of advancing their forums, it stinks! The old saying of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is extremely apparent with the latest M$ upgrade, in my opinion!!!

Hi alba

From what time period did these old postings you're looking for date?

Were you using forums, or were you using the newsgroups (with a web browser interface)? Does the following link take you to the interface you used to use? If it does, can you find your messages?

http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx

Hi Cindy,

I was actually looking for posts in http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/dgbrowser/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser&lang=en&cr=US&lc=1033 and similar forums. I believe I may have made an error in which forums I was looking at for answers... That said, it actually took me a while to find my posting(s).

A quick search for Microsoft Forums (using alternate 'major' search engine) gives MSDN as the chief place for MS Forums rather than the http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie etc that I would normally use for advice when I run into problems.

Has MSDN superceded the forums I would normally use? If so, where do I go to findout resolutions such as the latest I have posted (with the username of alba1314) at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/dgbrowser/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser&lang=en&cr=US&lc=1033? I am really unimpressed with the layout of MSDN because there seems to be no real pointer for the uninitiated and those unfamiliar with MSDN.

Hope this goes some way to explaining things?

Hi,

This site is MSDN forums and the threads that you have posted in are Newsgroups. Both belong to mirosoft but both are different based in the context and the product you are looking help for. If you are looking for threads that you have posted in Newsgroups then i would suggest you to look into Newsgroups site for your threads. Where as if you have posted your threads in the MSDN forums site then let us know which forum you have posted your threads in so that we can search for them.

Thank you,
Bhanu.

OK, that helped me "walk the listings" to figure out where you were and want to be vs. where you currently are :-) Try starting in either (or both) of the following links: does this list the groups you're interested in? And once you're in them, can you find your messages?

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/newsgroups/default.mspx#EAB

http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/

When Microsoft left CompuServe some ten years ago, they took their (peer-to-peer) support interface to the then new newsgroup technology. A few years ago, when "web forum" became the fad, the MSfT groups that develop the NEW developer technologies (.NET-related) decided to use this interface, rather than newsgroups. For one thing, it provides moderation tools not available in the newsgroup interface.

Your observation that things are somewhat confusing, currently, is correct :-) That's one reason why this particular place exists, and you can be sure MSFT is aware of the situation and is working on it.

I hope you're back into the places where you need to be and I'm sorry the plethora of support possibilities threw you off-stride last week. Good luck with your project!

Thanks a lot for the info, Cindy! Indeed, my aim was to trace my previous postings in 'Newsgroups' and I have been successful in doing so. Partly thanks to your guidance...

That being said, as I write, my problem still has to be resolved... Story of my life?!

Again, my thanks!

Microsofts been pretty consistent this year... with all their new technology and stuff. but i've noticed a bug on their homepage. [www.microsoft.com] When you right click the 'msdn' icon and look up properties u find a link that doesn't even relate to microsoft [www.hometown.aol.com/partypoker1click/] anyone else get this?
