WebBrowser Control not loading java applet (xp sp2)
Hi,
I am having a mfc exe with webbrowser control in a dialog. when i navigate to a page containing a java applet, it doesnt download/activate the applet. I'm just wondering if someone has encountered this issue?
my machine config is as follows:
Win XP Pro SP2
IE 6
JRE 1.5
points of interest:
1) When I open navigate to the page using IE, navigation bar appears.. if i allow the applet to run, it works fine
2) Firefox can also download and render the applet successfully
3) I have removed ms jvm from my machine
4) i have tried to load pages( having applet) from internet, intranet and local machine but it doesnt work for any page having applet
this gives an impression that the java runtime is working fine but there is something that i need to do for webbrowser control to behave. any pointers in right direction would be appreciated.
Cheers!

When you embed the WebBrowser control, for applets it uses the Microsoft JVM instead of Sun JVM. Since you mention that you have uninstalled Microsoft JVM, that might be the reason you dont see the applet loaded in your application. Check out
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4525262 where they discuss how you can change this behavior to use Sun JVM instead.
Hi,
First of all, thanks for your responses.
I have been doing lot of install/uninstall/reboot and what not.. also
uninstalled ms jvm which screwed up IE's java capabilities. i dont know
how to fix it. neither IE standalone, nor webbrowser controls load
applets anymore.
After all this, i installed winxp in VMWare and tried your workaround i.e. setting environment variable:
JAVA_PLUGIN_WEBCONTROL_ENABLE = TRUE
With this, my exe with web browser control could execute applet (of course in my new vmware winxp installation).
However, I am still having following issues:
1) if a page is having applet and any javascript in that page displays
any alert() or confirm(), executable hangs.
2) if there is any security prompt for the java applet, exe hangs
3) when applet is loaded, minimize the exe, it hangs
4) when applet is loaded, switch this window back and forth.. exe hangs
Looks like webbrowser control have too many bugs when it needs to talk
to java plug-in. if you have any solution to above issues, please let
me know.
Thanks,
dapi
seems i have a similar problem: java and avtive x will not run. site displays that it is not installed. norton firewall can block java and active x. i set to allow both.. stil nothing. internet explorer is set to allow also. stil nothing. xp pro and all updates october 2006.
it would be most helpful if microsoft had a java active x Tool Bar switch On / Off.
...custom settings. block or allow sites list. use sun java.
repair or diagnostic tool for java and active x would help.
do i have to format and reinstall windows just to fix java and active x ? oh bother.
a list of folders and files with version numbers would solve the problem. some person programmed all this.. so why not DOCUMENT it in plain site so people can fix things when they fail.
the largest reason to shut off is for security and advertisements.
