REgistration problem...

Can someone give me the link to the VB Express Beta 2 registration? I installed it on a pc of mine, that now is currently off the internet in an isolated network, But i'd like to retrieve the key on another PC. Link, please?

The link provided will not give a valid activation key. It is useful for when you lost your registration benefit e-mail and want to obtain another one.

To obtain your activation key for a product that is offline, from within the product go to Help -> Activate and select the Register link. This will bring up your web browser with the URL that you'll want to copy and take to a machine that does have a connection. Use that URL to obtain the proper activation key.

Hi Kathy,

As far a I know this approach will not work because the Activation Key is generated uniquely for each machine and is dependent on the machine. So, it is not possible to register a Express Edition on a machine thart does not have connectivity at the moment.

See: http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=87122

Vikram

You are correct - the activation key is unique to the machine/install. This is why I said you should start the activation process from the offline machine. Obtain the URL that is being sent to the online registration wizard and then use that on a machine that has connectivity. This should work.

I have a similar problem. I click the "Register now" link and my browser opens up and goes to the URL https://cpmsftibpro01.dns.microsoft.com/ProductActivation/ProductActivationSelector.aspx?yadayadayada

Of course, "cpmsftibpro01.dns.microsoft.com" can't be found and it ends there. This happens with Mozilla Firefox, IE and Opera.

Replacing the "cpmsftibpro01.dns" with "profile" I get the passport login page, which then redirects me to an empty page ("view source" tells me:)

Hi Steven,

Can you please tell me what build you are using? You can get this information from Help>About...

The build number is in the form of RTM.50727.XX.

How did you obtain this build?

Thanks!

It's the recently released Release Candidate. I downloaded it the day it was released. According to the "About" box, the version is "8.0.50727.32 (RTM.050727-3200)"

Hi Steven,

Thanks for following up with us. Did you download this software from your MSDN subscription, or is it publicly available on MSDN? The build you have should not be publicly available yet, that's why the registration URL does not work.

It'd be great if you can provide the URL you downloaded it from.

Thanks!

I don't have an MSDN subscription (but wish that I could afford one). I frequent blogs.msdn.com and saw several people blogging about the RC. Probably one of them had a link on there from which I downloaded the stub installer vcsetup.exe. I was especially interested in finding whether it was possible to set up the include and library paths using the GUI, which was not possible with VC Express 2k5 beta 2. It downloaded and installed just fine. I don't recall the specific URL, though. When I get back to the PC on which I downloaded it, I'll check my history, if it's still in there.
Was this not supposed to be available yet? I hope it can be activated before the 30 days expire... 2k5 is a massive improvement over precious versions. (Kudos!)

Hi Steven,

Registration does not work with this build because they are not supposed to be publicly available yet. We are checking to see why the have become publicly available.

Thanks for your help.
