VSTS 2005 (PDC bits) Installation and Running Issues...

I installed the given PDC VSTS 2005 and by the end it sort of failed still it finished the installation. An exception was thrown while "Executing Action: hxMerge_VSCC_v80" and request for the selecton of a debuger by just ignoring the issue it continue with the installation and later told me that it was completed successfully. It happend by the point in where it tried to run VSTS for some reason that I don't know, still on a retry I got the same issue.

On both occations it installed the product, still when I run it it just shows the splash screen and goes away.

Did some one had the same experience?
Can some one tell me how to get it running?

Help on the subject will be appreciated.

Hmm, this isn't a known issue to me. Do you know the build number for the version you're installing?

The Installed version is MSVS TS 2005 v8.0.50727.26 (RTM.050727-2600)
the framework v2.0.50727

The VS2005 was installed after removing VS2005-B2 and all related software as recommended / required in the installation instructions.

It is interesting that VS2005 works just fine but in "safemode". So I am currently executing "devenv /safemode" to work with it.

By that time I tried various strategies including removing some of the software installs that I was using. Yes I was guessing what could be affecting the VS2005 installation. Remember that the issue happens by the very end of the installed just before finishing up; therefore it is that last step that didn't work.

After quite a few times (and lots of hours) trying hard to installed the product an not having feedback from the forum, I threw the towel and try a "leaving with it" strategy to move on and work with VS2005.

Hope you bring some light to the issue...

We're still trying to find a repro & workaround for this.

In the meantime, do you have access to the Visual Studio 2005 RTM bits? If you're planning to upgrade to the final build, you might find that the problem is solved.

I also recieve this issue on install of the release version VS2005 Pro. I had Beta 2 installed previously.

One item of note in addition to the above comments - I had installed WinFx and the workflow related materials on my system. On the splash screen, I still see the Microsoft Workflow Tools - even though I uninstalled it. (The bits from the PDC.)

The splash screen shows but VS does not start. The bug report was submitted to MS a couple times - once during each install.

Actually, after I uninstalled the Workflow extension to VS 2005 - the system starts fine. My guess is there were still some beta bits on my system.

I'm getting the same behavior with the RTM version of VS Team Dev. I eventually formatted my HD, reinstalled XP SP2, SQL Server 2005 Dev RTM and VS Team Dev RTM, but am still getting the same results.

Sometimes it works for awhile, then I just get the splash screen and it hangs. Uninstalling also hangs... usually when it is trying to uninstall native images with ngen. The only way to get it to complete (or cancel) is to kill the ngen process in task manager .

Any thoughts?
