Procedure for Opening a 2005 Local Cube in Excel XP
Can anyone point me to the procedure for opening a local cube in Excel? I have created a local cube from SSAS2005. I used the following procedure to open it:
1, from a new workbook, I went to Data>Import Extrernal Data>New Database Query and got the Choose Data Source popup box;
2, I picked the OLAP Cubes tab;
3, I selected <New Data Source> option from the selection box and got the Create New Data Source popup box;
4, I entered a name for my new source and picked Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9.0 from the drop down list and clicked the Connect button;
5, On the Multidimensional Connection 9.0 popup box, I selected the Cube File radio button and hit the Browse button to find my file;
6, I selected my file and hit the Finish button,
The Multidimensional Connection 9.0 box closed correctly, but when Create New Data Source box returned, the Pick the Cube dropdown was empty and the OK button was still greyed out. Nothing I can think of to do will get it to finish and open the file. I can access the cube over the network correctly, however. Anyone have any ideas?
